After seeing this great clip
( [link] - the last part is a must-see!) from BBC Autumnwatch I wanted to make an artwork about it.

These whales are Type 1 killerwhales following a trawler in the North Sea. When the net is hauled they suck up the escaped en discarded mackerel. Note the teeth of the male in the front: they are severely worn, typical for older animals due to their way of feeding. If you wanna have a high-res, just ask me!

From a hand-drawn sketch I made this totally in Photoshop with the use of many samples and brushes.

Animals of convenience aren't they? Their ability to catch on to something is astonishing. Had me swallowing my tongue there for a minute at the sight of the ship, I thought it was a Whaling vessel. Nice detail of the Orcas teeth worn down, same thing that happens in captivity from being hand-fed like a damn baby. :/

Wow! That's my youtube account. If you don't mind me asking, how did you find that clip?

I did a piece of art inspired by it myself, but yours is WAY better. Gorgeous stuff, and fantastic details.

Hi Orcasaurus,

From a friend I heard that there was an Autumnwatch clip about orcas in the North Sea. So on YouTube I searched for 'orca, northsea' and Bingo! Thanks after all for posting this inspirational clip.
Waves are much more diffecult to paint than the orca's and the sky. So I use other pictures as a reference and special brushes to get a real watereffect.

But you're paintings are also awesome! I like the rough paint effect in your underwater scenes!

Beautiful picture. This was very well executed, especially the water (which is really tricky to do sometimes).
